You wanna be a set mummy? I wanna be a lady!

The Tinkerous Toddler’s vocab is coming on a treat… most of the time. She had me more confused than I’ve been a while yesterday morning though, as she insisted time and again for me to answer the question, “You wanna be a set mummy?” I couldn’t for the life of me work out what she was talking about.

I tried asking her if she wanted me to sit and cuddle her. That was met with a resounding ‘NO!” I tried saying that yes, I was happy to be a set and then enquired, “what exactly does a set do?” Which was only met with more frustration and a more insistent round of “you wanna be a set mummy?”

The whole, “I wanna be a lady” thing was throwing me too. What did ‘sets’ have to do with ‘ladies’?

It was only when she started pointing at her animal toys, the furry donkey on wheels, the little mouse Wheely Bug and her ‘pet’ tiger that it finally dawned on me… she wanted me to be a vet! If it had been framed by a recent encounter with a vet, either in real life or on TV that I’d known about, then I might have been wiser. But as it was, there had been no apparent clues.

So it was that we spent the next half hour with me being a ‘set’, whilst the Tinkerous Toddler was the ‘lady’ who came to the sets with her pet tiger, because it had a sore paw. I do love reality role play from a toddler’s perspective.

Ha! Well done for interpreting it in the end. Our nephew currently chats complete nonsense at us, but clearly knows EXACTLY what he thinks we should be doing as a result of his “words”!

That’s the thing that really tickles me, the indignation that goes along with talking complete nonsense and not being understood!!

Aw bless, that is so sweet! My little boy is nearly two and my Dad is looking after him for the first time in a while next week. I am seriously considering writing a little translation guide as he pronounces most words oddly. At the very least I need to tell him about ‘doys’ (juice), ‘discit’ (biscuit) and ‘si’ (outside) and then hopefully they will both be happy!
